Madison YounginerWith the deadline to sign players from the 2009 MLB Draft coming up on August 17th, the Boston Red Sox have come to terms with their 7th round pick, Madison Younginer.

According to Jason Churchill of ESPN.com, Younginer will receive a signing bonus of $975,000.

Younginer, a 6-foot-3, 195-pounder, was a tough scout for clubs this past spring because of his role on his high school team. He was used as a reliever primarily, limiting his chances to prove he could hold his velocity and delivery together as a starting pitcher.

Many talent evaluators raved about Younginer’s arm, and some even considered him a first-round talent based on his 92-96 mph fastball.

Younginer, who is from Mauldin High School in South Carolina, was supposed to attend Clemson University and had planned to go to freshman orientation there today. Obviously, he won’t be doing that now that he has signed the deal.
