Red Sox Road Trip to distribute ticket vouchers
2009 Regular Season General Ticket On-Sale to Begin January 24
BOSTON, MA – As the Boston Red Sox prepare to launch the 2009 regular season general ticket on-sale, the team will host the 2009 Red Sox Road Trip presented by Coca-Cola with stops in all six New England states over the January 17-19 holiday weekend. For the first time ever, as part of a road trip, the team will distribute vouchers valid for the guaranteed purchase of two Red Sox 2009 Regular Season tickets. A total of 6500 vouchers good for tickets will be given out – 1000 vouchers in each state over the weekend and an additional 500 vouchers in the Greater Boston area on Thursday, January 22. In addition, one lucky fan from each state, who visits a Red Sox Road Trip tour stop, will be selected as a Grand Prize Winner for the Red Sox Road Trip Opening Day VIP Experience (includes pre game VIP tour, watch batting practice on the field, and 4 tickets to Opening Day game versus the AL Champion Rays). Fans can register at each tour stop and the winner will be randomly selected from all names. The winner will be notified by email.
Vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis to fans that come to the Road Trip stops. Coupon holders will have a chance to purchase tickets in advance of the general on-sale, which begins on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
“The Red Sox have the most incredible fans in all of sports and this Road Trip will give us a chance to pay many of them a visit in their towns and say a special thank you,” said Red Sox EVP/Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Sam Kennedy. “We hope to bring them the warmth of baseball and thoughts of spring during these cold winter days. We also look forward to delivering vouchers to thousands of fans throughout New England and giving them the chance to join us at Fenway Park for what is certain to be an exciting 2009 season.”
The group making stops on the Red Sox Road Trip will include Wally the Green Monster, either the 2004 or 2007 Red Sox World Series Trophy, and Fenway Ambassadors. The Ambassadors will give away pocket schedules and other collectibles and souvenirs at each stop. Fans will also have the opportunity to sign up for Red Sox Nation, the official fan club of the Boston Red Sox.
All distributed vouchers, which will be valid for two 2009 Red Sox Regular Season Pre-Sale tickets, must be redeemed online at www.redsox.com between noon on Tuesday, January 20 and noon on Friday, January 23. Fans holding vouchers who do not have internet access or who require ADA accessible seating may also call 1-877-REDSOX9. Hearing impaired fans may call the Red Sox TTY line at (617) 226-6644.
The Road Trip is part of a multi-platform grassroots marketing initiative to promote the team’s 2009 regular season general ticket on-sale. The team has also produced a series of television and radio ads that will run in the Boston area, primarily during local news and high profile sports broadcasts. The campaign features a television spot with Wally the Green Monster, fans, players and legends including Hall of Famer Jim Rice, Terry Francona, Jed Lowrie, and one of the newest Red Sox – John Smoltz – all proclaiming that they “can’t wait” for the 2009 season. The spot will debut locally during the broadcast of the NFL’s AFC and NFC Championship games on Sunday, January 18. All spots were produced in cooperation with Conover Tuttle Pace, an award winning Boston-based advertising/public relations agency.
The Red Sox Road Trip will have two simultaneous itineraries to ensure all six states are covered over the weekend. The first itinerary includes: a visit to the Warwick Mall in Warwick, RI, on Saturday, January 17; the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, NH, and the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH, on Sunday, January 18; and the L.L. Bean Flagship Store at the Freeport Outlets in Freeport, ME, on Monday, January 19. The second itinerary includes: a visit to the Field of Dreams store at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington, CT, and a stop at the Crystal Mall in Waterford, CT, on Saturday, January 17; the Holyoke Mall in Holyoke, MA, on Sunday, January 18; and the University Mall in South Burlington, VT, and the Diamond Run Mall in Rutland, VT, on Monday, January 19. The Road Trip schedule also includes stops in Greater Boston on Thursday, January 22; locations will be announced in the near future.
