Daisuke Matsuzaka (L), Ben Sheets (R)

The Boston Red Sox are out on the west coast as they begin a 10-game road trip against the AL West. Tonight they’ll kickoff a three-game set against the Oakland A’s at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Tonight’s game will start at 10:05 p.m. and will be shown on NESN in the Red Sox television market. The game can be seen in the A’s television market on CSN California.. If you can’t catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to the game on the 2010 Red Sox radio network.

Daisuke Matsuzaka looks to be a little more consistent than he has all season in his first start after the All-Star break. He’s made 12 starts and is 6-3 with a 4.56 ERA. He’s faced the A’s once this season, picking up the win back on June 2nd when he allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Dice-K has made six career starts against the A’s and is 3-1 with a 4.18 ERA. He’s made three career starts at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA.

Ben Sheets could be auditioning for other teams as the trade deadline approaches in his 20th start of the season. In his previous 19 starts, Sheets is 4-8 with a 4.63 ERA. He took the loss in that June 2nd game as he allowed four runs in six innings. That June 2nd start was also the first time he’d faced the Red Sox in his career.
