Brad Penny and Josh Bard join the Red Sox: According to Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald, the Boston Red Sox have signed Brad Penny and Josh Bard to 1 year deals. Penny’s deal is for $5 million and he can earn another $3 million in incentives if he can reach 160 innings. Bard’s deal is a non-guaranteed major league deal worth $1.6 million. Bard played 7 games for the Red Sox in 2006 before he was traded to the San Diego Padres for Doug Mirabelli. In those 7 games catching Tim Wakefield, he had 10 passed balls to earn the ticket to the Padres. Bard will probably be the backup catcher unless a starter isn’t signed. [Clubhouse Insider]
