BROADCAST INFORMATION

Television

For the second time, UConn will have a football game televised regionally by ABC. The other was during the 2005 season, also at home against USF. Terry Gannon, Davie Norrie and Quint Kessenich have the call of Saturday’s game which airs locally on WTNH TV-8 in New Haven.

Here is a look at the coverage map for the regional games at 3:30 PM on ABC.

Radio

For the 16th consecutive season, WTIC 1080-AM in Hartford serves as the flagship station for the UConn Radio Network. WTIC is the state’s only 50,000 watt signal and can be heard in 23 states and parts of Canada. Veteran UConn announcers Joe D’Ambrosio (play-by-play) and Wayne Norman (color commentary) return to call the action with Kevin Nathan on the sidelines. The UConn pregame show begins 90 minutes prior to kickoff and is hosted by Bob Joyce, while at home games, the UConn Tailgate Show will air two and a half hours prior to the game with Arnold Dean. UConn football games are also broadcast over the internet at WTIC.com. For a full list of stations on the WTIC/UCONN radio network, click here.

USF’s radio broadcast with Jim Louk, Mark Robinson & Mike Pepper can be heard on WFLA 970 AM, WFLL 1400 AM, WORL 660 AM, WTSU 1590 AM, WPSL 1590 and the Press Pass on GoUSFBulls.com

UCONN vs South Florida

Last Week

UConn beat Louisville 21-17. South Florida lost to Rutgers 30-27.

History

This will be the 5th time the two teams have met. South Florida leads the brief series 3-1. UConn‘s lone win came back in 2005 when they beat USF 15-10. That was the last time the Huskies played on ABC.

Connections

  • UConn has 13 players from the state of state of Florida but none hail from the Tampa Bay area.
  • USF’s Courtney Denson and UConn’s Dennis Brown both started at quarterback at Miami Central High School during their prep careers. USF’s Sabbath Joseph also played with the pair at Central.
  • USF brothers Keith and Kevin McKaskill attended Tallahassee’s Godby High School with UConn’s Ellis Gaulden.
  • USF assistant head coach Dan McCarney was the head coach at Iowa State from 1995-2006. He was there when UConn QB Tyler Lorenzen was there in 2004 and 2005. Prior to ISU, McCarney was the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin where one of his linebackers was current UConn defensive coordinator Todd Orlando.
  • UConn’s Jasper Howard attended Miami’s Edison High School as did USF’s Richard Clebert, Marc Dile and Brouce Mompremier.

Other News:

UConn cracked the BCS Top 25 at #23 but is still not ranked in the AP and USA Today Polls.

UConn is started off this 3-game homestand with a win.

With their win last Friday night, UConn became bowl eligible. I think it will take at least one more win to guarantee a bid, most likely in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte.

Andre Dixon has taken over as the starting running back for UConn.

Lawrence Green has moved back up on the depth chart at left guard just six weeks after surgery. He and Alex LaMagdelaine are now at the top of the depth chart.

South Florida quarterback Matt Groethe was sacked a career-high 7 times against Rutgers.

UConn is facing a ranked team for the 11th time in their 1-A history. They are 0-10 in those games. South Florida (11/12) is the second highest ranked team to come since West Virginia came in at #4 in 2006.

Next Week

UConn hosts Rutgers next Saturday night (November 3rd) at 7:15 PM at Rentschler Field.
