UConn redshirt freshman linebacker Scott Lutrus picked up a weekly honor from the Big East Conference as he was named defensive player of the week. In UConn’s 21-17 win over Louisville, Lutrus had 18 tackles and 1 interception. For a redshirt freshman I am quite impressed with his play. He was starting because of an injury to Ryan Henegan and has given head coach Randy Edsall a great effort each time out to keep the starting spot.
In other football news, the Big East Conference announced that UConn’s game on November 3rd against Rutgers at Renstchler Field will start at 7:15 PM and be carried on ESPNU.
Big East Conference commissioner Mike Tranghese spoke out on the mistake on the missed fair catch call in the 3rd quarter of the UConn-Louisville game.
Tranghese told Jurich the officials had made a “terrible” mistake. Tranghese took action against the referee who missed the call, but wouldn’t elaborate on the penalty.
“The bad part is I can’t change the call,” Tranghese said Monday.

It was a horrible non-call and obviously changed the game. But UConn is now 6-1 and moves on to play South Florida on Saturday afternoon at the Rent.
