After being declared cancer free, Jon Lester has to go to the doctor every three months for a follow up visit. He was up in Boston on Thursday getting checked out. Well, on Friday he got the results. And as you can tell by the post title, it was good news. Lester is still cancer free. Lester then texted manager Terry Francona the good news.
Just a few hours after receiving the good news, Lester made his first start for the Pawtucket Red Sox. The plan called for him to pitch for the PawSox on Wednesday but they were rained out in Rochester. So he was pushed to Friday.
Lester was solid yet again in his next-to-last rehab start. He went five shutout innings for the PawSox. He scattered 3 hits over those five innings. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out six Buffalo Bisons.
With Julian Tavarez struggling, one can only assume that Lester will probably assume the fifth spot in the Sox rotation. He is scheduled to make one more start for the PawSox on Wednesday but if Tavarez struggles on Sunday, I’d have to believe the Red Sox would be inclined to put him back in the rotation. Lester has done everything the Sox have asked and then some. I don’t think anyone expected him to bounce back like this.
Congratulations to Jon on the good news and my wishes for continued success and good health.
