A former Boston Red Sox reliever, Hideki Okajima, has gone over to the dark side as he has signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees.
He was invited to spring training as a non-roster invitee and will compete for a bullpen spot with former Red Sox farmhand Cesar Cabral.
Okajima appeared in seven games for the Red Sox in 2011 before spending the rest of the season in Triple-A with the Pawtucket Red Sox. With the Red Sox last year, he was 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA. In 34 games with the PawSox, he was 8-1 with a 2.29 ERA.
Overall in his career, all with the Red Sox, Okajima was 17-8 with a 3.11 ERA and six saves from 2007-2011.
