UConn Huskies punter Desi Cullen knew that he wasn’t going to get drafted during the 2010 NFL Draft. But what he did know is that he’d probably get a chance at some team’s rookie mini-camp.

And that time has come for Cullen as Desmond Conner of the Hartford Courant reports that Cullen is heading to the Chicago Bears, signing as a undrafted rookie free agent.

Cullen, one of four captains for the Huskies in 2009, will get a chance to compete for the jump during the rookie mini-camp later in the week. He’ll hope for a good enough showing that will allow him to compete with Bears punter Brad Maynard.

In three years as the Huskies punter, Cullen had 196 punts for 8,059 yards (40.7 avg per punt). He handled the kickoff duties for five games as a freshman and for his final three years at UConn.

In 2007, he punted 75 times for 3,055 yards with seven touchbacks and 21 punts downed inside the 20. In 2008, he had 59 punts for 2,351 yards (39.8 avg per punt) with five touchbacks and 24 punts downed inside the 20. In his senior season during 2009, Cullen had 62 punts for 2,653 yards (42.8 avg per punt) with nine touchbacks and 26 punts downed inside the 20.
