Every year during UConn’s Spring Weekend, there is usually a plethora of people who get arrested for various offenses. On the first night of UConn’s 2011 Spring Weekend, there were 11 arrests. And included among them was UConn Huskies men’s basketball sophomore guard Jamal Coombs-McDaniel.
Coombs-McDaniel was busted along with Shakwaan Ishmale Simpkins and Stanley Darnel Winn by UConn Police Thursday night. The trio was found to be in possession of 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and cigars used to smoke marijuana. They were charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
There was no comment from the UConn men’s basketball program other than to say they are aware of the arrest.
Coombs-McDaniel was part of the UConn Men’s 2011 NCAA Championship run although he didn’t play as much over the final four games due to a knee injury that resulted in surgery two weeks ago. He did play in all 41 games this season, averaging 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds in 16.6 minutes per game.
He has also spent a good portion of his two years at UConn in the doghouse of Jim Calhoun. Given his tumultuous relationship with Calhoun, you have to wonder if this is the last straw for Coombs-McDaniel.
