According to Heidi Watney of NESN, Boston Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez is most likely heading to the disabled list with a fractured left thumb suffered during the game.
During the second inning of today’s 5-1 win over the San Francisco Giants, Bengie Molina fouled a ball off of the glove and left foot of VMart. It didn’t appear anything was wrong with the thumb initially as VMart hopped around in pain after the ball hit his toe.
After seeing the replay, you can see the ball go off of his thumb and him shake his hand before the pain in the toe set in.
VMart becomes the third Red Sox player hurt during the trip to San Francisco. Dustin Pedroia ended up on the DL after fouling a ball off of his foot and Clay Buchholz hyperextended his knee during yesterday’s game.
And now my question for everyone is, who catches Tim Wakefield’s next start?
