After waiting out a lengthy rain delay last night at the new Yankee Stadium, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees proceeded to take part in a typical Sox/Yanks 3 hour and 48 minutes affair that saw the Red Sox come away 6-4 winners.
Jon Lester started for the visiting nine last night and showed the form from last season that got him a new contract. His stuff was overpowering last night and he was keeping the Yanks hitters on the their toes and even had them guessing at pitches.
Things took a change for Lester though when he threw a potential double play ball low to Nick Green at second. Dennis Eckersley said in NESN booth that pay attention to that because it could cost him later on.
Well it did because after a strikeout of Derek Jeter and ejection of Joe Girardi, he left a pitch out over the plate that Johnny Damon smacked out of the park for a 2-run homer. Mark Teixeira followed with a solo shot on the next pitch to get the Yankees even closer at 4-3.
Not to worry though as new Yankee killer Jason Bay struck with a 2-run homer to put the Sox in front for good. Despite a few bumps, Ramon Ramirez and Jonathan Papelbon finished it off to make the Red Sox 4-0 against the Yankees this season.
