The “struggling” Boston Red Sox picked up a Grapefruit League win yesterday over the Florida Marlins 5-3.

It was another solid outing for Josh Beckett who went 3 innings, throwing 45 pitches including 31 for strikes. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Takashi Saito followed him with an inning of work, walking 1 while striking out 2. Hideki Okajima had rough inning giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. Manny Delcarmen struck out 3 and gave up 3 hits in an inning of work.

Offensively, Josh Reddick went 3-for-3 while Julio Lugo and Jed Lowrie both went 2-for-3 with Lowrie adding an RBI. Zach Daeges added a 2-run home run and Jeff Bailey knocked in 2 runs as well.

The Red Sox head to Port Charlotte today to take on the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:05 PM. There is no television coverage today but the game can be heard on WRKO in the Boston area and WDAE in the Tampa area. The Rays will come to City of Palms Park on Sunday and that game can be seen on NESN at 1:05 PM as well as be heard on WRKO and WDAE.

The World Baseball Classic is underway and two Red Sox minor leaguers will be heading back to camp as Chinese Taipei was eliminated by China last night. Che-Hsuan Lin went 3-for-7 and Chih-Hsien Chiang went 2-for-7 in the losses to Korea and China.

Daisuke Matsuzaka was on the mound in Japan’s 14-2 win over Korea. Matsuzaka went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1.

David Ortiz and the Dominican Republic will take on the Netherlands this morning at 11 AM on ESPN2. Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis of Team USA will take on Jason Bay of Team Canada at 2 PM on ESPN. Javier Lopez and Team Puerto Rico will take on Panama at 5 PM on ESPN.
