Should I stay or Should I go?

The Boston Red Sox have just 3 days until the exclusive negotiating period with Jason Varitek ends and there hasn’t been anything reported that’s new. I guess maybe as Kennan said yesterday, “no news is good news.”

There was some hardware handed out yesterday by different organizations as Jon Lester was named the recipient of the 2008 Hutch Award and Jacoby Ellsbury won a Legacy Award for steals.

Terry Francona’s bench coach Brad Mills was busy yesterday as he was in Seattle interviewing for the vacant Mariners manager’s opening. Third base coach DeMarlo Hale will have his interview later this week. The good news is that pitching coach John Farrell has declined the Mariners request for an interview.

“I have withdrawn my name for consideration by the Seattle Mariners as they search for a new manager. I wish them well as they move forward. My decision is based on family reasons and being committed to the Red Sox Organization. The working relationship shared with Theo and Tito and the resources provided by John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino create a situation that is both challenging and rewarding.”

San Diego Padres outfielder Brian Giles explained his decision to veto a trade to the Red Sox back in August.
