The Boston Red Sox filled out their 40-man roster yesterday when they claimed Virgil Vasquez off of waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
Vasquez spent the 2008 season in Triple-A with the Toledo Mud Hens where he was 12-12 with a 4.81 ERA in 27 starts. He has a little big league time as he was called up by the Tigers in 2007 when he went 0-1 with a 8.64 ERA in 5 games (3 starts).
Earlier this week, the Red Sox removed Gil Velazquez and Chris Smith from the 40-man roster and both of them have elected to become free agents.
If you missed the news yesterday, Lee County voted 3-1 to keep the Red Sox there for the next 30 years. It’s now up to the Red Sox to sign the agreement as well.
