I thought I’d pass on an update to the J.D. Drew situation, talk about Dice-K’s adjustments to the big leagues, and let you all know that the Red Sox bank account is officially less $51.1 million dollars.

First off, the Red Sox hopes are still up that they can finish the deal with J.D. Drew despite concerns with his surgically repaired right shoulder. Drew did go for his second opinion on his shoulder and word is the Red Sox are not as concerned as they once were. However, they would like to renegotiate the contract possibly adding into it something that will protect their investment should his shoulder cause him to miss significant time. They do hope that the deal can be worked out by the end of the week although with Scott Boras busy with Barry Zito right now, who knows. If he can stay healthy, Drew is a big part of the Red Sox for 2007. He will provide extra insurance batting behind Big Papi and Manny.

Here is something I didn’t know. Matsuzaka had been pitching in a six-man rotation over in Japan. Also their schedule is only 136 games compared to 162 in MLB. So instead of pitching on 5 days rest in Japan, he will be pitching on 4 days most of the time over in the States. This probably won’t end up being a big deal as he will have spring training to adjust to the pitching rotation.

And finally, the Seibu Lions announced that they have received the $51.1 million dollars posting fee from the Boston Red Sox.
