For the second time this season, UConn Huskies men’s basketball freshman center Andre Drummond has been named the Big East Rookie of the Week. Here’s the release from UConn:

STORRS, Conn. – Freshman center Andre Drummond was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, December 19, after scoring a season-high 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting to go with eight rebounds and five blocks in a 77-40 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.

The BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year is averaging 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and league-leading 3.0 blocks per contest. A native of Middletown, Conn., Drummond has had three or more blocks in six of 10 games this season and is shooting 59-percent from the field. He currently ranks 14th in the nation in blocks per game.

Connecticut, 9-1, will play Fairfield at the XL Center on Thursday, December 22 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on SNY and can be viewed at ESPN3.com.
