The American League voting totals are out for the 2011 MLB All-Star Game being held in Phoenix, AZ in July and it looks to be a New York Yankees love fest. Right now there are six Yankees leading the vote totals at their respective positions while the Boston Red Sox have a few in contention.
Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays leads all voters in the AL with Yankees OF Curtis Granderson and Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton holding down the starting outfield nods.
The entire infield right now consists of Yankees as Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez all lead at their positions. Heck, if you wanted to count the catcher spot as part of the infield, they lead there too with Russell Martin. Michael Young of the Rangers leads the balloting at DH.
As for the Red Sox, Adrian Gonzalez sits in second and is about 130,000 votes behind Teixeira at first base. Dustin Pedroia is second in voting at second base but trails Cano by roughly 589,000 votes. Kevin Youkilis is fourth in voting at third base as he is about 500,000 votes behind ARod.
David Ortiz is second in voting at DH, only approximately 28,000 votes behind Young. In the outfield, Jacoby Ellsbury is in 6th, 150,000 votes behind Hamilton while Carl Crawford is 9th, 300,000 votes behind Hamilton. J.D. Drew is in 14th place about 440,000 votes behind Hamilton.
Yes it’s still early in the voting but do we really want to see an entire Yankees infield Red Sox Nation. It’s our time to make our voices heard.
