The final update for the 2012 MLB AL All-Star balloting came out on Monday and unless a major miracle happens before voting ends on Thursday night at 11:59 p.m., the only member of the Boston Red Sox that will start the All-Star Game is David Ortiz at DH.
A lot can happen over the next three and a half days but unless Michael Young of the Texas Rangers can make up over 600,000 votes, Big Papi will get the start.
The only other member of the Red Sox in the top five of the voting totals at their position is Dustin Pedroia who is behind the second base leader Robinson Cano by 1.9 million votes. So it’s safe to say, Pedroia won’t catch him.
Jacoby Ellsbury, despite missing most of the season, is 15th in the outfield voting totals, two million votes behind third place in Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays.
So while we might not be able to get anyone else into the AL starting lineup, let’s make sure Big Papi starts in the 2012 MLB All-Star Game.
