The Boston Red Sox are heading back to the scene where they clinched their 2007 World Series title as they prepare to take on the Colorado Rockies in a three-game set. For the guys who were on the team in 2007, it’s a chance to remember the good times. But for the 2010 team, it’s a chance to keep the good baseball going.
The Red Sox are coming off of an 8-1 homestand which saw them take 2-of-3 from the Philadelphia Phillies and sweeps of two NL West foes in the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers. They’ve been scoring a ton of runs and also have gotten some great starting pitching. Now they’ll look to continue that success against the Colorado Rockies.
Two of those starters providing the most excellent pitching could find themselves in Anaheim for the 2010 MLB All-Star Game. Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz are definitely worthy of All-Star consideration when it comes time for the players and Yankees skipper Joe Girardi to make their decisions.
With the way the voting is going, it’s going to take an executive order from President Barack Obama to have any Red Sox starters in the All-Star Game. Unfortunately, President Obama is a Chicago White Sox fan so that’s not going to happen.
The only thing that can be done right now is for us as Red Sox fans to keep voting and voting as many times as we want. Otherwise we’ll have to rely on the players and Girardi to get guys like Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Beltre, Victor Martinez and David Ortiz into the game.
Speaking of All-Stars, the Red Sox will definitely have their hands full on Wednesday night when Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound. Jimenez has been dominating the National League as he’s made fourteen starts and boasts a record of 13-1 with a 1.15 ERA. Of course if your just a casual baseball fan, you’ve probably never heard of him since the Rockies aren’t exactly a national team right now.
But trust me after Wednesday night, you’ll know who he is. Let’s just hope the Red Sox can break through against him.
