According to published reports the Red Sox are not only going to recall pitcher Clay Buchholz for Friday’s doubleheader against the Angels but they plan on bringing up outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury as well.
Here is how the move will most likely work. Someone will have to be taken off the 25-man roster so Wily Mo Pena most likely will be traded or released. Buchholz will be recalled for game one and will start. Immediately after the game, Buchholz will be returned to Pawtucket and Ellsbury will be recalled to take his place on the roster for the night game. With this move Ellsbury is expected to stick for the rest of the season, this leaves outfielder Bobby Kielty as the odd man out for the time being. Kielty, who signed a minor leaue contract last week, can now opt out of his deal and be released if he so chooses.
Buchholz will be making his major league debut, while Ellsbury played for the Sox earlier this year.
