Last night’s game started off great for the Boston Red Sox as they had New York Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain a little bit rattled. He settled down though and while the Red Sox got base runners, it looked as though it was going to be frustrated night as they hit into what seemed like 100 double plays.
When the game got to the bullpens, you would have expected things to go the Red Sox way but they didn’t early on as Hideki Okajima struggled. Manny Delcarmen came in and bailed him out and things were looking good for the Red Sox bullpen. Meanwhile the Yankees bullpen was continuing to frustrate the Red Sox hitters.
That all changed though in the bottom of the 9th inning when Jason Bay connected for a towering two-run blast into the Green Monster seats in center field off of Mariano Rivera to tie the game at 4. Just two innings later, Kevin Youkilis became a hero again in Boston with his walk-off home run.
It just wouldn’t be the Yankees/Red Sox without a flair for the dramatics.
