It’s been a banner day for the UConn Huskies women’s basketball program as the honors keep pouring in.
Just hours after being named the winner of the Wade Trophy, Maya Moore was honored as the AP Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year. Her head coach, Geno Auriemma picked up another award as he was named the AP Women’s Coach of the Year.
Moore is just the second sophomore to win the award joining 4-time All-American Courtney Paris of Oklahoma. Moore received 37 of the 45 votes while her teammate Renee Montgomery received 4 votes
This is the second straight time Auriemma has won the award and the 6th time in his career. Besides last year, he also won it in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2003. Auriemma received 27 of the 45 votes with Nell Fortner getting 7 votes to finish in second.
