With today being the first day of rosters expanding to 40, the Boston Red Sox have called up five players, including four players from the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
The four players from the PawSox are catcher George Kottaras, outfielders Brian Anderson and Joey Gathright and infielder Chris Woodward. They also recalled Junichi Tazawa from the Gulf Coast Red Sox.
Both Gathright and Woodward were added to the 40-man roster. To make room on the 40-man, the Red Sox designated Jeff Bailey for assignment.
Tazawa is expected to start this weekend against the Chicago White Sox.
