Paul Byrd is the latest member of the Boston Red Sox to file for free agency joining 7 other teammates in doing so. Byrd was picked up in a trade by the Red Sox with the Cleveland Indians in August.
The move proved beneficial to the Red Sox as he provided some stability to the Red Sox rotation at a time when he was much needed. Byrd went 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA in 8 starts for the Red Sox and finished with a 11-12 record in 30 starts combined.
Byrd most likely won’t be back with the Red Sox in 2009 as they have a plethora of starting pitching.
The only other member of the Red Sox eligible for free agency is Mike Timlin and he’ll most likely be retiring.
