The rosters for the 2012 All-Star Futures Game were released on Thursday and two members of the Boston Red Sox minor league system will represent the team in the game on the Sunday before the 2012 MLB All-Star Game.
The 14th annual Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD on July 8th at 5 p.m.
Former UConn Huskies pitcher Matt Barnes, currently playing for the Salem Red Sox, and shortstop Xander Bogaerts, also playing for Salem, have been selected to represent the Red Sox. Barnes will play for the US team while Bogaerts will play for the World Team.
Barnes started his 2012 season off with the Greenville Drive where he went 2-0 with 0.34 ERA (1 ER/26.2 IP) in five starts. He was then promoted to Salem where he is 5-1 with a 1.37 ERA in eight starts. Combined between the two clubs, he is 7-1 with a 0.99 ERA.
Bogaerts has spent the entire 2012 season with Salem. In 66 games, he is hitting .293 with nine home runs, 42 RBIs and three stolen bases.
Other Red Sox players currently on the big league roster who have participated in the game are Josh Beckett (2000 as a member of the Marlins), Adrian Gonzalez (2001 as a member of the Marlins), Aaron Cook (2002 as a member of the Rockies), Carl Crawford (2002 as a member of the Rays), Kevin Youkilis (2003), Clay Buchholz (2007), Jacoby Ellsbury (2007), Franklin Morales (2007 as a member of the Rockies) and Will Middlebrooks (2011).
