In his continuing search to strengthen his porous defense and solidify his special teams Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots once again stayed with defense selecting Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard with their first selection in the 7th round (#224).
Dennard had a better 2010 than 2011, earning the Big Ten Defensive back of the Year award. He was projected as a late first rounder or second round pick but fell off this year when he didn’t have a good season.
Although he can be physical at time and his man-to-man skills are pretty good, he doesn’t recover well on double moves and has weak ball skills.
Dennard was arrested last weekend in Lincoln NE when he got into a fight with another man. It took four officers to subdue him and he is facing charges for 3rd degree assault, 3rd degree assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
In addition Dennard was ejected from a bowl game in 2011 for fighting.
