Here’s the release from UConn about the UConn Huskies men’s basketball players named to the various All-Big East Teams.
STORRS, Conn. – It was announced today by the BIG EAST Conference that UConn sophomore guard Jeremy Lamb has been named a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team. Lamb is the only sophomore selected to the six-member squad. Freshman Andre Drummond was selected to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.
Lamb was a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team and has been selected throughout the season to the major National Player of the Year watch lists, including the Naismith Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
As a freshman, Lamb earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.
Lamb has led UConn to an 18-12 record and the No. 9 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament set to begin Tuesday at Noon in Madison Square Garden when the Huskies face No. 16 DePaul.
On the season, Lamb has recorded 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He’s shooting 48-percent from the field and 83-percent from the line heading into the postseason.
Lamb has had two 30-point performances and eight 20-point games this season. He’s hit double digits in all but three contests.
Marquette had two players selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team with the only unanimous selection, Jae Crowder, and Darius Johnson-Odom.
Freshman center Andre Drummond (Middletown, Conn.) earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Rookie squad. Drummond led all UConn players with 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. Drummond ranked third in the league in rebounding among freshmen and his 10.2 points per game placed him seventh in freshmen scoring.
Drummond’s 53-percent shooting led all freshmen with at least 50 field goals made while his 2.63 blocks per contest led all freshmen and ranked third in the BIG EAST Conference.
Drummond set a Calhoun-era record for freshmen at UConn with nine double-doubles, surpassing the old mark of seven held by all-time great Emeka Okafor in 2001-02.
