Here’s the release from the UConn athletic department concerning the 2011-12 UConn Huskies men’s basketball schedule:
STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team will play a 2011-12 regular season schedule that features a minimum of 14 national television appearances and is highlighted by a pair of national televised match-ups against co-BIG EAST favorite Syracuse University. The BIG EAST Conference released the 2011-12 schedule Wednesday.
The defending national champion Huskies will play a 19-game home slate, including a pair of exhibitions, and open regular season play on November 11 against Columbia on ESPNU from Gampel Pavilion. Highlighting the evening will be the unveiling of the 2011 NCAA National Championship banner in the arena. UConn has 11 dates in Hartford and eight in Storrs, with one exhibition in each building included in those totals.
The Husky BIG EAST schedule includes home-and-home contests against Syracuse, Notre Dame and Seton Hall among the 18 league games. UConn will host single games against St. John’s, West Virginia, Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette and Pittsburgh, while hitting the road for games at USF, Rutgers, Georgetown, Louisville, Villanova and Providence.
The non-conference schedule is highlighted by participation in the Battle 4 Atlantis at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas over Thanksgiving weekend. UConn opens with UNC-Asheville in the event and will play either Central Florida or College of Charleston in the second game. Game three will match UConn up with Utah, Harvard, Florida State or UMass.
The non-conference slate also features a home game against Arkansas in the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge and a road contest at Tennessee.
The Husky national television slate currently includes 14 contests, including two on CBS and 12 on the ESPN networks (ESPN, espn2 or ESPNU). The contests with Syracuse will both be nationally televised, by CBS at the Carrier Dome and by ESPN in Storrs as College Gameday makes its return to the UConn campus. The Huskies will also appear officially two times on ESPN’s Big Monday package. The possibility also exists for additional national television games to be added in the coming weeks.
