John R. Wooden AwardThe John R. Wooden Award Ballot Selection Committee has announced the 19 players that are eligible for the women’s 2009 Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year.

Two members of the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team have made that list. Senior point guard Renee Montgomery and sophomore forward Maya have been chosen by the selection committee. Tina Charles, who had been on the mid-season ballot, is not on the list.

The John R. Wooden Award is given to annually to the top player in women’s basketball. To be eligible for the award, the student-athletes must have a 2.0 GPA.

The Huskies are one of two teams who have two players on the list. The Maryland Terrapins are the other with Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman.
