The UConn women’s basketball team came into Saturday’s game against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane with four games left in American Athletic Conference play. For a normal team, that would mean fighting for seeding with the conference tournament looming.
But as we know, the UConn Huskies are no ordinary team. For them, it’s a matter of fine tuning the little things to prepare themselves for the bigger picture, a third straight NCAA Women’s Championship.
They did exactly that in front of 3,568 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center when the Huskies doubled up the Golden Hurricane 92-46.
It’s the 25th straight win for UConn who improve to 26-1 (15-0 American). Tulsa falls to 14-12 (9-6 American).
Breanna Stewart led the way for the Huskies with 28 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 17 points and five assists while both Moriah Jefferson and Kia Nurse both had 12. Jefferson also had six assists and six rebounds.
Saniya Chong rounded out the UConn players in double figures with 11 points.
Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovery both had 13 points to pace the Golden Hurricane. Clark also pulled down six rebounds to lead them as well.
The Huskies are back in action on Monday night when they head to the Big Easy for a matchup with the Tulane Green Wave. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m.
