Jamelle Elliott and Geno Auriemma back in 2003 - AP PhotoAt the end of last season, Tonya Cardoza left the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team for a job with the Temple Owls. Now, Geno Auriemma is about to lose another assistant.

According to John Altavilla of the Hartford Courant, Jamelle Elliott will be named the new head basketball coach at the University of Cincinnati.

Elliott has been with the Huskies as an assistant coach under Auriemma for the past 12 years and also played at UConn for four years. She has been a part of all six UConn championships (1 as a player, 5 as a coach).

A press conference will be held tomorrow at 4 PM to make the announcement official.

This should be interesting with her leaving for a Big East school as now she’ll get to face to the Huskies next season. As long as Cincinnati believes in her, she’ll turn around that program and get them to national prominence.

Best of luck Jamelle, you’ll be missed here.
