Shame on me for not posting an update last month when the cases went to court. So let me update as to what happened in court in April and then share an email exchange I had with a writer from the Hartford Courant on Friday.
Back on April 26th, Kara Satalin, Anthony Alvino and Michelle Hall were in court on their charges stemming from the death of Carlee Wines when the vehicle Alvino was driving struck Wines. She died from the injuries she suffered in the accident on January 20th.
Hall was in the passenger’s seat when Alvino struck Wines and she convinced Alvino to leave the scene of the crime.
Satalin was charged with providing Alvino and Hall alcohol. She allegedly used a fake ID to purchase the alcohol. Alvino was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle resulting in death, evading responsibility and tampering with physical evidence. Hall was faces charges of aiding and abetting evading responsibility, conspiracy to commit evading responsibility, and third-degree hindering prosecution.
Two others were charged with providing Alvino and Hall alcohol at a party on the UCONN campus the night of the incident. Ken Rusterholz and Matt Gallo face charges of providing alcohol to minors.
In court, Satalin applied for accelerated rehabilitation and a hearing was scheduled on the application for May 25th.
Accelerated rehabilitation is available to people accused of non-violent crimes who do not have criminal records and who a Superior Court judge finds are not likely to commit another crime.
Alvino’s case was also continued to May 25th and Hall’s case was continued to June 8th.
On Friday afternoon, I was looking online for an update to what had happened in court. I didn’t see anything at all so I decided to email a writer from the Hartford Courant, David Owens. Much to my surprise, he got back to me fairly quick and told me the following.
David Owens: The cases against Satalin and Alvino were continued to a later date. Satalin’s hearing will probably go forward next month. I expect Gallo and Rusterholz to seek accelerated rehabilitation as well.
As for Hall and Alvino, it will probably be a while.
A very special thanks to David Owens for answering my questions and providing an update.
The students of Manalapan High School in New Jersey will be sponsoring a 5 mile run to celebrate the memory of Carlee Wines. For more information, on this head over to the Carlee Wines Memorial site.
