2015 Red Sox Opening Day Delight

After a rough 2014 season, the Boston Red Sox look to rebound as they open up the 2015 season against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Cardinals television market, you can catch the game on NBC 10. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2015 Red Sox Radio Network.

Clay Buchholz makes his first career Opening Day start for the Red Sox. Buchholz made 28 starts in 2014 and was 8-11 with a 5.34 ERA. Today marks his first career start against the Phillies and at Citizens Bank Park.

Cole Hamels, a subject of trade rumors during the offseason, makes his second career Opening Day start. Hamels made 30 starts in 2014 and was 9-9 with a 2.46 ERA.  He last faced the Red Sox in 2012 when he picked up the win after allowing three runs in six innings of work. He’s made five career starts against the visiting nine and is 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA.

Video: Did UConn’s Morgan Tuck Play With a Chip On Her Shoulder?

UConn women’s basketball player Morgan Tuck certainly played like an All-American this season after sitting out last year with a knee injury. But when the All-American teams came out over this past week, Tuck’s name was no where to be found except as an honorable mention All-America from the AP.

While it is hard to be recognized when you play with the likes of Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson, Tuck deserves the same attention they receive. For those who watched her play this season, they know how good Tuck really is.

And now that’s she has been snubbed by the writers and the coaches, the world is finding out just how good Morgan Tuck really is.

Watch and/or listen below as the UConn women’s basketball team as well as head coach Geno Auriemma talk about whether or not Morgan Tuck had a chip on her shoulder against Maryland in the Final Four.

UConn’s Breanna Stewart Named USBWA National Player of the Year

From UConn:

TAMPA, Fla. — University of Connecticut women’s basketball junior standout Breanna Stewart, winner of the 2015 Associated Press Player of the Year and 2015 Wade Trophy, added another honor to her rapidly-growing awards list when she was selected as the winner of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, as announced by the United States Basketball Writers Association on Sunday.

UConn's Breanna Stewart (30) during the UConn Huskies open practice at the 2015 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.

Breanna Stewart wins the USBWA National Player of the Year for the second straight year.

Stewart, who took home the award in the 2013-14 campaign, became the sixth NCAA Division I player to earn the accolade in multiple seasons. In total, Stewart’s selection marks the program’s eighth USBWA National Player of the Year award.

Deb Corum, senior associate director of athletics for the Huskies, accepted the award for Stewart in the Amalie Arena as UConn, the two-time defending NCAA champion, prepared to meet Maryland in one of the national semifinals games on Sunday a 9 p.m. ET

The award, first handed out in 1987-88 by the USBWA, began being named for former UCLA four-time All-American Ann Meyers Drysdale in 2012.

The other two-time winners were former Virginia star Dawn Staley (’91, ’92), who returned to the Women’s Final Four Sunday for the first time since her playing days as the coach of South Carolina, Tennessee’s Chamique Holdsclaw (’98, ’99) and Candace Parker (’07, ’08), UConn’s Maya Moore (’09, ’10), and Baylor’s Brittney Griner (’12, ’13).

In 2014-15, Stewart has averaged 17.6 points per game and was joined by teammates Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Moriah Jefferson joined as USBWA All-Americans.

Top seeds UConn and Maryland are set to tip off in the second of two NCAA National Semifinal contests on Sunday night at Amalie Arena at 9 p.m. on ESPN.

Video: UConn Women Preview Tonight’s Final Four Game Against Maryland

In just four and half hours or so, the UConn women’s basketball team will take on the Maryland Terrapins in the second game at the Final Four at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. The UConn women’s basketball team last faced the Terps in the Sweet 16 in 2013 and are 3-0 overall against them.

For the UConn women’s basketball team, they’ll be looking to go for a third straight title on Tuesday night. The Terps will look to prevent that and go for a national title of their own against the winner of the first game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Watch and/or listen below as the UConn women’s basketball team previews their game against Maryland:

Video: Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams Experience First Final Four

Two of the three freshman on the UConn women’s basketball team, Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams, play significant roles on the team.

The other, Courtney Ekmark, hasn’t really found her stride this season after being injured early in the season. For all three, it is obviously their first time going to the Final Four as a member of the UConn women’s basketball team.

In Nurse and Williams, their UConn women’s basketball teammates expect them to continue to do what they’ve in the NCAA Tournament as well as the whole season. And that’s play like you have been.

Watch and/or listen below as Nurse and Williams talk about their first experience with the UConn women’s basketball program at the Final Four.

Video: Moriah Jefferson’s UConn Teammates React To Her All-American Status

When UConn Huskies point guard Moriah Jefferson is honored on Senior Night in 2016, she’s going to get more than just a framed jersey.

Because she was named a WBCA All-American on Saturday, Jefferson will forever have her name on “Husky of Honor” wall at Gampel Pavilion. That is the criteria of head coach Geno Auriemma for having a player’s name up there.

Jefferson’s All-American status is no surprise to her teammates. Jefferson has taken her game to a higher level this year and is one of the main reasons why the Huskies are in the Final Four yet again.

Watch and/or listen below as Moriah Jefferson’s UConn teammates react to her being named an All-American:

2015 Red Sox/WEEI Radio Network

2015 Red Sox Radio Network

The Shaw’s Star Market WEEI Red Sox Radio Network looks much the same as it has for the last few seasons as Dave O’Brien and Joe Castiglione return for their 9th season together in the booth as the primary announcers for Boston Red Sox baseball.  All the games will be broadcast from the team’s flagship station WEEI-FM 93.7 in Boston to its network affiliates through out New England, New York, New Mexico and Wyoming.  As well as having all the home games carried along the XM Satellite Radio network. You can also listen to Dave and Joe via MLB AtBat app on your smartphone or tablet.

O’Brien, a New Hampshire native who enters his 9th season in WEEI booth, is probably the most familiar amongst the Red Sox radio crew for the non-Red Sox or non-baseball fan in the crowd due to his heavy schedule with ESPN.  In addition to his duties as the Red Sox lead announcer, Obie does the Monday night games for ESPN with Rick Sutcliffe and Aaron Boone.  Prior to joining the Red Sox, O’Brien was the play-by-play announcer for the Florida Marlins radio network from 1993 to 2001 until he left to go to ESPN. While at the World Wide Leader he has called in addition to baseball, World Cup Soccer, college basketball, NBA, MLS and the women’s college basketball Final Four.  He has also called games for the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and the University of Georgia.

Castiglione, a Hamden CT native, joined to Red Sox broadcasts in 1983 and has worked with such luminaries as Bob Starr, Ken Coleman and Jerry Trupiano in his 33 seasons.  Castiglione, who grew up a Yankees fan, has become well known in Red Sox lore for his call of the final out of the 2004 World Series, which ended the team’s 86 year drought without a championship.  When he is not in the radio booth you can usually find Joe teaching sports broadcasting at Northeastern University.  He has also called games for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers in his career.

Mike Mutnansky is entering his 2nd season hosting the Red Sox pre-game and post-game shows on the Red Sox Radio Network since taking over for John Ryder early last season. Mut will also handle “”Sox Talk”  the call in show that airs during rain delays in the game. When not involved with Red Sox baseball, he also part of the Planet Mikey Show and has his own show from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Over the air the Red Sox Radio Network has nearly 60 stations in 9 states.
