Buehrle Hurls No-No

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle hurled the season’s first no hitter on Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers as they White Sox won 6-0. Buehrle faced the minimum 27 batters, walking only one and striking out 8. The one walk he allowed was to Sammy Sosa but Buehrle caught Sosa napping and picked him off of first base. The White Sox scored their runs on two Jim Thome solo home runs and a Jermaine Dye grand salami.

Quick Sox Recap: Special K Edition

The normally unflappable Daisuke Matsuzaka lost his focus for one inning and unfortunately for the Red Sox, it cost them the game. Yes, there are other things that didn’t happen that could have but Matsuzaka’s lose of command in the 4th inning was really what did the Sox in as they lost 2-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays.

A questionable non-third strike call on a pitch to Vernon Wells may have led to the unraveling because Vernon Wells took the next pitch and hit a single. Visibly upset, Dice-K then walked Frank Thomas on 4 pitches. Lyle Overbay singled past a diving Julio Lugo for a single that drove in Wells to tie the game at 1. Aaron Hill then worked a walk after a 9 pitch at bat. Then Greg Zaun walked on 5 pitches to drive in Thomas with the go-ahead and winning run.

Wily Mo Peña got the Red Sox on the board first, with an absolute bomb to center field. It ended up hitting above the old restaurant at the Rogers Centre. Peña, who started for J.D. Drew who was given the night off, was 2 for 3 in the contest with the lone RBI for the Red Sox. Coco Crisp was 2 for 4 and is now hopefully starting to show signs of life at the plate.

Other than the bad 4th inning, Matsuzaka was brilliant. In his 6 innings of work, he struck out 10 Blue Jays, walked 3 and gave up all 3 of the Blue Jays hits. Hideki “Darkman” Okajima continues to pitch well out of the bullpen as he struck out all 3 Blue Jays he faced.

The Red Sox will send Tim Wakefield to the mound tomorrow night and he will be opposed by former Sox pitcher Tomo Ohka.

Repost: Big Papi’s New Book Part 3

With Big Papi’s new book coming out today, I thought I would repost the articles that have the excerpts from his book. So if you missed it the first time, please enjoy. And if you have already read it, read it again and then head out to your local bookstore to pick up the book.

I have a special treat for all you Boston Red Sox fans out there in the greatest nation in the world, Red Sox Nation. I was asked by the fine people at Holtzbrinck Publishers to take a look at and review David “Big Papi” Ortiz’s new book entitled, ‘Big Papi: My Story of Big Dreams and Big Hits’ which he wrote with Tony Massarotti. The book will be hitting bookstores in approximately 2 weeks on April 17th and can be bought at bookstores nationwide or preordered at Amazon.com. There is even a Spanish version as well.

Once I get my copy of the book, I will be reading and reviewing it here on the site. I also hope to be able to get a few extra copies to give away. I won’t know that until they ship my book out. If I do receive the books, I will be giving them away on our radio show, The Hits Keep Coming…, on a future episode. We would probably do some type of Big Papi trivia contest and the winner would receive a copy of the book. I will have more on this once I know if this will be possible.

So for the next three days, we will be taking a look at excerpts from the book. If you would like to read the last part, click the read the rest of the entry link. To read part 1, you can click here and you can read part 2 here.

As Seen On Baseball Tonight

Here is something from the Red Sox game on Monday. You watch the video you will notice a fan knocking a fly ball away from Angels OF Garrett Anderson. But that’s not the best part. Just watch what was thrown.

If you paid six bucks for a piece of pizza why would you waste it. The guy was wearing a Patriots jacket so he was probably a Sox fan and should have been happy that the ball was knocked away. Here is a link to the story of what happened.
