It Was Bob Watson, Head of the Fashion Police

Give her a nose job and she'd be one fine piece of ass.If you’re planning to fly Southwest Airlines in the near future, you need to make sure you’re not dressed too slutty.

Kyla Ebbert, a 23-year old Mesa College student and Hooters waitress, was recently asked to leave a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego to Tucson because her skirt is too short and she was dressed too provocatively.

“You’re dressed inappropriately. This is a family airline. You’re too provocative to fly on this plane,” she quoted the employee as saying.

“I said, ‘What part is it? The shirt? The skirt? Which part?’ And he said the whole thing.”

Look at the picture on the left, is she dressed to slutty to fly on a plane? Personally, I don’t think so. She is dressed like your normal average 23-year old would be. If you got it, you should flaunt it. I just don’t understand how that skirt is short. You can’t see anything. And I am sure she would cross her legs like a lady.

What’s next? You can’t come in this restaurant because we are a family restaurant and you’re showing too much cleavage.

When It Rains, It Pours

Jay Gibbons and steroidsJust when you thought the Baltimore Orioles season couldn’t get any worse, news comes out tying injured O’s outfielder Jay Gibbons to the growing list of athlete’s names in the Signature Pharmacy investigation. Sports Illustrated is reporting that Gibbons received the following:

A source in Florida with knowledge of Signature Pharmacy’s client list alleges that between October 2003 and July 2005, Gibbons received six separate shipments of Genotropin (a brand name for synthetic Human Growth Hormone), two shipments of testosterone and two shipments of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), a hormone produced naturally during pregnancy, but taken by anabolic steroid users to stimulate the production of testosterone, which is suppressed as a result of steroid use. The information regarding Gibbons only pertains to receipt and not actual use of the drugs.

Testosterone was banned by MLB in 2003 and HGH was banned by MLB in 2005. MLB did not start testing for performance-enhancing drugs (ie. steroids) until 2003. There is no proven test for HGH, although the Olympic Committee has said they had one before the 2004 Olympics. By looking at the drugs he received, it looks as though he “could have” done steroids. I don’t speak for Gibbons nor would I. But to the naked eye one can presume he did. As I said in a previous post, he is “innocent until proven guilty” although the way the media perceives things, “guilty until proven innocent”. All this does is make the black eye bigger for Bud Selig and MLB. Three players in 3 days have now been implicated in this ever-growing investigation. And now we can add Gibbons to the list with Rick Ankiel, Troy Glaus, Wade Wilson, Rodney Harrison, and 10 WWE wrestlers. And as I have with all these posts, I have to ask the question, “WHO WILL BE NEXT?”

Beckett Spins 7 Strong Innings For 18th Win

Josh Baseball

Just moments after Chien-Mien Wang picked up his 18th win of the season, Jonathan Papelbon finished off the Orioles 3-2 to give Josh Beckett his 18th win of the season. The 18 wins by Beckett represents his career high. Beckett went 7 strong innings in the win. The save for Papelbon was his 35th, which tied his total from last season.

Da Man For Da SoxAfter a relatively quiet first two innings for both squads, the Red Sox broke up the scoreless tie in the 3rd inning. After Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie got the first two outs of the inning, Dustin Pedroia got the second of his three hits on the day with a single. Pedroia went to third on a David Ortiz double to deep right field. Both of them would come around to score on a Mike Lowell single, giving the Sox a 2-0 lead. Lowell continues his assault toward Butch Hobson’s franchise record of 112 RBIs for a third baseman as he now has 103. Can anyone say big payday? Guthrie then walked J.D. Drew but got out of the inning as he fanned Kevin Youkilis.

Beckett scattered four hits over the first 3 innings but gave up a run in the 4th. Aubrey Huff struck out for the first out of the inning. Beckett then threw a fastball that he left up in the zone that Melvin Mora planted in the seats, cutting the Sox lead to 2-1. Beckett got Ramon Hernandez and Freddie Bynum on ground balls.

After giving up the two runs in the 3rd, Guthrie had settled down. In the 6th, he issued a lead-off walk to Youk. With Jason Varitek at the plate, Youk stole second base on the third pitch of the at-bat. After Guthrie threw the fifth pitch of the at-bat, the trainer and manager came out as Guthrie was injured. Jaime Walker came in and walked Varitek. Coco tried to sacrifice the runners but Hernandez threw to third to get a non-sliding Youk. Walker got Alex Cora to fly out and Jacoby Ellsbury to ground out.

1/2 half of Texy's lovesBaltimore got another run in the 6th inning as Beckett gave up his second gopher ball of the day to Nick Markakis. The homer by Markakis tied the game at 2. He then retired the next 3 batters of the inning.

Beckett started off the 7th inning hitting Hernandez with a pitch (payback for Daniel Cabrera throwing at Pedroia). Brandon Fahey came in to pinch-run for Hernandez, giving the Oreos some speed on the bases. Bynum moved Fahey over to third with a sacrifice bunt. Kevin Millar, pinch-hitting for Luis Hernandez, moved Fahey over to third with a ground out to Cora at short. The last batter Beckett faced, Brian Roberts, gave him a battle but in the end it was Beckett who won with a strikeout of Roberts.

Beckett went 7 innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 runs and he struck out 8 on 116 pitches. He didn’t walk anyone.

For Beckett to get his 18th win, he would need some help from his hitting buddies on the team. Drew led off the inning with a single off reliever Chad Bradford. Youk made the first out when Roberts made a jumping catch of a weak liner. With Varitek at the plate, Drew took off for second on what was probably a hit-and-run. Varitek ended up hitting a deep fly to center that was deep enough to move Drew to third. Coco Crisp brought in the eventual winning run as Drew scored easily on his single. Kurt Birkins came in for Bradford and got Cora for the final out of the inning.

The Red Sox went to their bread and butter in the 8th inning as Hideki Okajima came in and worked a perfect 1-2-3 8th inning. Papelbon came on and gave up a single to Mora but worked out of it with strikeouts of yesterday’s hero Scott Moore and Bynum.

The Sox return home to the Fens on Monday to face the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Curt Schilling will get the ball and face Scott Kazmir, who always seems to face the Sox. The Yanks, who trail the Sox by 5.5 games in the AL East, come in on Friday after a off day for the Red Sox on Thursday.

Brady, Moss Pick A Part Jets, 38-14

Ben Watson catches a 5 yard TD pass

The Result

The Patriots win the season opener in a romp at the Meadowlands beating the Jets 38-14.  The Patriots are 1-0, while the Jets are 0-1.

The Patriots looked really good in beating the Jets today.  They clicked well on offense, the defense stepped up in the absence of two of their big guys and the special teams keyed by a NFL record kick off return excelled as well.

Tom Brady to Randy Moss has a chance to be something very special.  Neither has ever had a player of the others caliber around them and today it looked so easy.  Moss at 6’5″ has a huge advantage on most DB’s in the league and you saw today all Brady has to do is throw the ball up and Moss will get it.

Scoring Plays

Wes Welker TD celebrationPatriots first quarter Brady 11 yard TD pass to Welker – kick good 7-0 Patriots

Jets second quarter Pennington 7 yard TD pass to Coles – kick good 7-7

Patriots second quarter Brady 5 yard TD pass to Watson – kick good 14-7 Patriots

Patriots third quarter Hobbs 108 yard kick off return – kick good 21-7 Patriots

Patriots third quarter Brady 51 yard TD pass to Moss – kick good 28-7 Patriots

Jets third quarter Pennington 1 yard TD pass to Coles – kick good 28-14 Patriots

Patriots fourth quarter Gostkowski 22 yard field goal -31-14 Patriots

Patriots fourth quarter Evans 1 yard run – kick good 38-14 Patriots

Brady passes against the JetsOffensive Player of the Game

These two were linked all day so it’s only fair to that they share in this honor.

Randy Moss 9 catches 183 yards, 1 TD and Tom Brady 22 for 28, 297 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs

Defensive Player of the Game

Patriots DL Jarvis Green 6 tackles and 2 sacks.  Very impressive along with Warren as the line stepped it up in the absence of Richard Seymour.

Turning Points of the Game

On 3rd and short in the second quarter the Patriots decide to go no huddle and quick snap the ball not allowing the Jets to make substitutions and after looking pass Tom Brady easily runs for the first down.  He then goes back-to-back to Randy Moss for a 30 yard completion and a 27 yard completion to get to the Jets 6.  This would eventually turn into points when Brady hit Ben Watson in the back of the end zone for a touchdown to give the Patriots a 14-7 lead with just a minute left to play in the half.

Ellis Hobbs returning the opening kick off of the second half for a NFL record 108 yard touchdown.

Pat Summitt Speaks About Rivalry, Sort of

UCONN vs Tennessee

Pat the bitchPat Summitt finally has said something about why she ended the series between UCONN and Tennessee in women’s basketball. The problem is that she didn’t say the exact reason why. She did say though that it’s highly unlikely the two teams will play in the regular season while she is coach.

“Tennessee and Connecticut fans, as well as basketball fans across the country, will probably miss the fact we’re not playing because of the length of the rivalry and the … competitiveness,” Summitt said. “But I haven’t had the feeling that the entire nation is going to miss the game.”

“The fact that the television networks would seek our games every year is somewhat unfortunate,” she said. “I do think, in terms of this season, that the game can expand [by showing other games]. I know from our standpoint, we’re playing Oklahoma, which I think would get some good exposure.

“As far as my decision was concerned, I didn’t approach it with the feeling that it was going to hurt women’s basketball. There are a lot of strong teams in the country that feature a lot of great matchups.”

I beg to differ Pat. I think no matter if you were a fan or not, you want to see a UCONN/Tennessee matchup. Think of all the young girls who want to be the next Candace Parker or the next Tina Charles. Unless the two teams meet up in the NCAA tournament (I have a strange feeling that somehow they will be in the same bracket this year), nobody will get to see the two greatest women’s basketball programs square off.

Former players Sue Bird and Kara Lawson, both of whom play in the WNBA, both have similar opinions in that they will both miss the series.

The UCONN hottie Sue BirdSue Bird:

“My initial reaction, at least after I said `What?’ to myself, was one of sadness,” said Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird, a former UConn All-American. “I wanted to know what the reason was, why would [Tennessee] want to end such a great rivalry. I know what it was like to play in it. It was fun, it was competitive. It was a game you circled on the schedule when it came out.

“They were great, great games, and now looking back I’d have to say they were also some of my fondest memories. It’s the biggest rivalry of all, the one that put women’s basketball on the map for a lot of people. The telltale sign always for me has been that it didn’t matter whether you were a women’s basketball fan, a men’s basketball fan or just a general sports fan. You always knew when UConn was playing Tennessee. It’s similar to Duke-UNC, the Yankees-Red Sox even. It’s one of the great ones.

“I know college basketball is interested in pumping up [other rivalries], but there is nothing like UConn-Tennessee, and I don’t think there ever will be.”

ewwwwwwwwwwwKara Lawson:

“As a fan of women’s basketball as much as a Tennessee alum, I’d have to say there is some disappointment in the fact they won’t be playing anymore,” Lawson said. “That was the game you looked forward to watching, and as a player it was the game you looked forward to playing in. Even now, as an analyst for ESPN, I would look forward to it solely to see how the great players would react to it, especially the freshmen on both sides.”

Pat, do the right thing, bring back the series next year. I know Geno won’t mind kicking your ass with Tina Charles, Maya Moore and Elena Delle Donne.

Red Sox News & Notes – 9/9

I am not sure that I really want to talk about last night’s game because it was just another awful outing by Dice-K. Is he tired mentally and physically? Has the demands of a longer season finally caught up to him? Only he knows the answers to those burning questions. Today, Josh Beckett takes the hill for the Red Sox and one has to wonder if he will retaliate for what happened on Friday. The only way to find out is to set up two TV’s in your living room while you watch the Patriots and Red Sox games today. But before you go off and set up that second television, let’s take a look at the headlines from the Baltimore and Boston area media.

UCONN Pitches A Shutout

Tyler Lorenzen started off slowly for the UCONN Huskies but rebounded to throw for 186 yards and two touchdowns while running for another as the Huskies defense dominated in a 38-0 win over the Maine Black Bears. Terrence Jeffers was the recipient of Lorenzen’s touchdown passes. The defense held Maine to just 152 total yards of offense and never allowed them in the red zone.

UCONN got on the board just 2 plays into the game for the Maine offense. Maine QB Michael Brusko dropped back to pass and UCONN redshirt freshman linebacker Scott Lutrus picked it off and returned it 21 yards to get UCONN on the board 7-0 after the extra point.

UCONN’s offense struggled a little bit in the first half. Their first offensive drive came to an end at Maine’s 31 when Tony Ciaravino didn’t even come close on a 51-yard field goal attempt. Towards the end of the first quarter, UCONN drove the ball down the field but were stopped at the Maine 7 yard line and had to settle for a Ciaravino chip shot field goal for a 10-0 lead.

Late in the second quarter, the UCONN defense forced a Maine punt in which UCONN got the ball back at their 35. UCONN went into their 2-minute offense and after two incomplete passes, Lorenzen ran it 10 yards for a first down. Lorenzen’s next pass on first down went to tight end Steve Brouse for an 11-yard completion. After a Donald Brown II catch for 8 yards, Lorenzen threw an incomplete pass. The next play was a run by Brown for 13 yards that got the ball down to the Maine 23. Lorenzen hooked up with Jeffers for a 17-yard completion and then a 6-yard touchdown pass for a 17-0 UCONN lead after the extra point.

After UCONN’s and Maine’s first drives of the second half stalled, UCONN got the ball back and went 65 yards on 10 plays that finished up with Lorenzen to Jeffers 2-yard touchdown pass. After another Ciaravino extra point, the Huskies were in total control at 24-0.

The UCONN starters got one more chance to execute on offense towards the end of the third quarter. UCONN went 58 yards in 6 plays as Lorenzen ran the ball in himself. The two big plays of the drive were a Brown 25-yard run and a Lorenzen to D.J. Hernandez 29-yard pass that set up Lorenzen’s TD run.

Dennis Brown and the Huskies’ reserves came on at the end of the third quarter and drove the ball down the field well. Most of the yardage came on the ground from the legs of running back Lou Allen who ran for 42 yards on the drive with the last 31 coming on a touchdown run for a 38-0 Huskies lead.
