For the second straight game, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team found themselves in an unfamiliar position. They were trailing early in the game after a slow start.
And for the second straight game, they recovered despite another bad shooting night.
It was Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who was named the Lincoln Region Most Outstanding Player, who got the Huskies going on their way to a 69-54 win over the Texas A&M Aggies at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NE on Monday night.
UConn moves to 38-0 on the season while Texas A&M finishes at 27-9.
KML paced the Huskies with 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Stefanie Dolson fell two blocks short of a triple-double as she had 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots while Bria Hartley also had 14 points.
Breanna Stewart, who spent the final eight minutes of the first half on the bench with two fouls, finished with 13 points. Moriah Jefferson had a nice all-around game with 11 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Courtney Walker led the Aggies with 14 points. Courtney Walker added 13 points and six rebounds while Jordan Jones had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
UConn found themselves down seven at 11-4 before they went on a 7-0 run in just under a minute and a half to tie the game when KML drained a three. After trading baskets, a Hartley layup gave the Huskies the lead for good at 17-15.
They used a 13-2 run to build the lead up to 13 capped off by a Jefferson three and would enjoy an 11 point lead at the half.
Texas A&M didn’t lay down though.
They battled back scoring the first six points of the second half to cut the lead down to five. After more basket trading, the Aggies got the lead down to three before the Huskies went on a 10-0 run to seize control of the game and a plane trip to Nashville.
UConn will take on the winner of Tuesday night’s game between North Carolina and Stanford on Sunday in Nashville. Game time is to be determined.
