Video: UConn Women Cruise Past Rutgers, 83-57

Right now, the only way to stop the UConn Huskies women's basketball team is to sneak in and put a lid over their basket. And that might not even work because of how tenacious they are on the defensive end.

In a monster play, UConn Huskies forward Breanna Stewart (30) flies along the baseline to deny Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard/forward Betnijah Laney (44) in the first half of their semifinal matchup against Rutgers in the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Mohegan Sun Arena And oh yeah, they've got Breanna Stewart and the other teams don't.

For the second straight game, Stewart led the Huskies in scoring as they crushed the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 83-57 in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on Sunday afternoon.

UConn moves to 33-0 on the season while Rutgers falls to 22-9 and will now have to wait eight days to find out if they're NCAA Tournament bound.

All five Huskies starters were in double figures led by Stewart's 22 points and team-high seven rebounds. She also had two blocked shots. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 19 points with five made threes while Stefanie Dolson had 15 points.

Bria Hartley just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine assists. Her backcourt mate Moriah Jefferson added 10 points and seven assists.

Briyona Canty came off the bench to lead the Scarlet Knights with 16 points. AAC Freshman of the Year Tyler Scaife added 12 points as did Kahleah Cooper. Rachel Hollivay led Rutgers with seven rebounds and had seven points.

If there was any doubt as to who was going to win this game, UConn made sure it was going to be them by playing their finest 20 minutes of basketball this season.

They started out the game with the first 13 points then followed that with a 12-2 run to take a 25-4 lead. Rutgers would cut the lead down to 16 points before the Huskies went on 10-0 run to push to 26.

By the time the first half was over, UConn had hit the half century mark and led by 31 at 50-19.

Rutgers actually outscored UConn in the second half by five points but when you're trailing by 31 at the half, it didn't even matter. If you're looking for a moral victory, Rutgers did lose twice to the Huskies this season by over 40 points each time.

The win by UConn and the win by Louisville in the nightcap sets up the final for Monday night at 7 p.m. And we all know the Cardinals will be out for revenge after falling twice to the Huskies this season.

It should be an interesting and great battle.

Video: Louisville Embarrasses UConn Men, 81-48

You always want to head to your conference tournament at the top of your game. After Saturday's stinker, the UConn Huskies men's basketball team has a lot of work to do before the tournament starts on Thursday night.

UConn coach Kevin Ollie looks distraught during the second half of his team's 81-48 loss to Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center Saturday afternoon. After the UConn women ruined the senior day of the Louisville Cardinals on Monday, the Louisville men made sure theirs wasn't ruined with an 81-48 pasting of UConn in front of a sold-out crowd at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday afternoon.

The UConn men finish up the regular season at 24-7 (12-6 American). Louisville finishes up at 26-5 (15-3) and picked up a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season title.

DeAndre Daniels led the Huskies with 17 points and had eight rebounds. Shabazz Napier added nine points and nine rebounds.

Montrezl Harrell led the Cardinals with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Luke Hancock added 16 points while Wayne Blackshear had 11 and Chris Jones had 10.

Senior Russ Smith had just three points for Louisville but had 13 assists. Stephan Van Treese pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Cardinals started out the game on a 17-5 run as UConn couldn't buy a basket early on. The Huskies scored the next six points to cut the lead in half but still ended up trailing by 12 at the half at 30-18.

UConn would cut the lead to seven but they never got back into the game as Louisville put together two big runs to set up the rout.

Just when you thought their game a few weeks ago was the worst offensive performance, this one took the cake and then some. All things considered though, it was just the second loss in the last nine games for the Huskies.

Unfortunately though, they haven't played all that great in those seven wins either.

UConn will have until Thursday to get their act together as they'll take on the fifth seeded Memphis Tigers in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Tip is scheduled for approximately 9:20 p.m. at Fed Ex Forum in Memphis.

Video: UConn Women Crush Cincinnati, 72-42

After winning the American Athletic Conference regular season title, the next goal for the UConn Huskies women's basketball team is to win the AAC Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

They got that started on Saturday afternoon when they faced former player and coach Jamelle Elliott and her Cincinnati Bearcats squad.

UConn forward Breanna Stewart draws the foul from Cincinnati guard Jasmine Whitfield as she drives to the basket. AAC Player of the Year Breanna Stewart helped lead UConn past Cincinnati 72-42 in front of 7,332 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Huskies improve to 32-0 while the Bearcats finish their season at 13-18.

Stewart led four UConn players in double figures with 22 points and had five rebounds. Bria Hartley added 17 points and five assists while Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 12 points.

Stefanie Dolson came close to a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Jeanise Randolph paced the Bearcats with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kayla Cook added nine points.

Playing their second game in as many days, Cincinnati stayed close with UConn over the first 10 minutes trailing 17-13. But as they always do, the Huskies went on one of those unrecoverable runs, this one of the 20-4 variety, to enjoy a 37-17 lead at the break.

The Huskies opened up the second half on a 13-3 run and never looked back from there.

UConn will take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the semifinals. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Video: UConn Men Survive Challenge From Rutgers, 69-63

Connecticut Huskies guard Shabazz Napier (13) takes a shot over Rutgers Scarlet Knights' Malick Kone during the first half at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn., on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

Maybe it was the emotions of senior night. Maybe it was the fact the UConn Huskies men's basketball team has been up and down lately as far as their play.

If it were the emotions of senior night, it didn't show early on as UConn raced out to a lead over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights only to see them battle back.

But in the end, it was UConn who prevailed, beating the Scarlet Knights 69-63 in front of a sold-out crowd at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday night in Storrs, CT.

The No. 19 Huskies improve to 24-6 (12-5 American) while Rutgers falls to 11-19 (5-12).

In his final game at Gampel Pavlion, Shabazz Napier led UConn with 26 points, including a career-high seven three pointers. German native Niels Giffey had a career-high 16 points in his final game in Storrs while DeAndre Daniels had seven points and a team-high six rebounds.

He also made ESPN's Not Top 10 after getting stuffed by the rim on a dunk.

Myles Mack led the Scarlet Knights with 16 points and five assists. Wally Judge added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while J.J. Moore chipped in 11 points.

The Huskies got of the gates quickly racing out to a 10-3 lead. Rutgers battled back to take the lead at 11-10 on a Moore three-pointer only to see Napier drown one of his seven threes.

UConn would push its lead to seven points late in the first half before the Scarlet Knights cut it to one. The Huskies would enjoy a three-point lead at the half as Napier made two free throws.

Early on in the second half, the game stayed close before UConn worked it to an eight point lead at 56-48. Rutgers once again came back and cut it to three points. Six straight points including two dunks by Philip Nolan pushed UConn's lead to 11 points.

Rutgers would get it back down four points but that was a close as they got.

Ryan Boatright and Napier got into it a little bit at one of the timeouts late in the game and it was evident Kevin Ollie was not pleased. He actually pulled Boat from the floor and used him for offense/defense substitutions at the end of the game.

Whatever their problem is, those two need to work it out, at least on the court, as the Huskies need both of them to make a run in the American Athletic Conference tournament as well as the NCAA Tournament.

UConn finishes up the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday afternoon when they'll take on the Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY at 2 p.m.

Video: UConn Women Take Outright AAC Title in 68-48 Win Over Cards

There were two things on the line during the UConn Huskies women's basketball game with the Louisville Cardinals in Louisville, KY on Monday night.

The outright American Athletic Conference women's basketball regular season championship (with a UConn win). Or a share of the title (with a Louisville win). And oh yeah, a perfect regular season for the UConn women.

The Cardinals came out quick and threw their best punches. But in the end No. 1 UConn absorbed them and added a few of their own as they beat No. 3 Louisville 68-48 in front a record women's basketball crowd of 22,163 at the KFC Yum! Center.

The Huskies finish the regular season 31-0 (18-0 American) and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming AAC Tournament this weekend. Lousiville, who will be the No. 2 seed, finishes at 28-3 (16-2).

UConn forward Breanna Stewart takes a wild shot as Louisville guard Jude Schimmel defends during the first half. Breanna Stewart led UConn with a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots. Bria Hartley added 14 points while Moriah Jefferson had 11 points before becoming just the second Huskies player to foul out this season.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added a double-double of her own with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Stefanie Dolson had a nice all-around game with six points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Tia Gibbs paced the Cardinals with 16 points. Sara Hammond added 12 points while Shoni Schimmel was held to nine points. Asia Taylor led them with nine rebounds.

Louisville threw the first punches as they put UConn in their largest deficit of the season with a 7-0 run to start the game. KML brought the Huskies back with five straight points. The battle continued and a layup by Hammond put the home side up six at 16-10.

From there, the Huskies battled back to take their first lead at 21-20 on a KML three-pointer. They would take the lead for the good at 23-21 on a Dolson layup. That layup kickstarted an 11-0 UConn run that put them up 10 points.

The Cardinals would get it as close as six but at the half UConn would enjoy a 10 point lead.

Neither team shot the ball well in the second half but UConn clamped down on defense and never let the home team back into the game.

This was an odd game for the Huskies.

They used their offense to take control in the first half and defense in the second half to seize the game. I say odd because I don't think we've ever seen a UConn team shoot the ball that badly in a half (9-of-28, 32.1%).

UConn will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT when they'll take on the winner of the 8/9 game between UCF and Cincinnati.
