Celtics Sign Posey

James Posey the newest CelticThe Boston Celtics have signed veteran NBA player James Posey to a two-year contract. The deal calls for $3.8 million this year with a player option for next season.

The Celtics introduced the former Miami Heat player at a press conference today. Posey, a 6’8″ swingman, couldn’t stop smiling as he talked about the opportunity to play with a team that has a chance at a championship. Posey already has one that he got as a member of the Heat’s 2006 championship squad.

Posey has mostly made his name in the league on perimeter defense and rebounding. His quick hands, long wingspan and large frame make him an above-average defender who can guard up to four positions.

Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge is certainly going all out in an effort to not only bring a title to Boston but to save his job. This off season he has added Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Eddie House, Scott Pollard and now Posey in a total roster reconstruction.

“He plays hard, he has that experience and he knows what it takes. He’s played with good players and he knows how to find his spots,” Ainge said of Posey. “He knows how to create, he’s good at slashing off the ball, and he’s had to work for shots when you play with great players like Shaq and Dwyane Wade in Miami.”

The Celtics have won a NBA best 16 championships but their last one came in 1986.

Ray Ray is Done For The Year

Former UCONN Huskies star, Ray Allen, is out for the rest of this NBA season with bone spurs in his left ankle. Allen will have to undergo surgery to remove those spurs. He had been playing in a lot of pain lately and was unable to tolerate it. He has had a previous surgery on that ankle back in 2003.

“I hate to sit on the sidelines and watch,” Allen said. “I’ve had a lot of tough times the past two, three weeks just getting in, getting out and trying to play games.”

Allen is now the second former UCONN Husky to be out for the rest of this season, joining Charlie Villanueva on the injured list.
