Video: Rays Complete Third Straight Sweep Of Red Sox

Sean Rodriguez #1 of the Tampa Bay Rays celebrates with Desmond Jennings (R) of the Tampa Bay Rays after both scoring off of a three-run home run by Rodriguez during the seventh inning of a game against the Boston Red Sox on May 25, 2014 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Things weren’t looking good for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. They were down 3-1 and seemingly on their way to their 10th straight loss. Then Jonny Gomes delivered a two-run homer to tie the game in the 7th and breathe new life into the visitors.

Unfortunately though Craig Breslow had some trouble allowing a walk, a hit and a three-run homer to Sean Rodriguez that deflated the sails of the already sinking ship. The three-run homer helped the Rays to an 8-5 win and sent the Red Sox further into the depths of the basement of the AL East.

Brandon Workman got the call from Triple-A to start this one and lasted five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Breslow got roughed up allowing the final five Rays runs in 2/3 of an inning. Alex Wilson and Edward Mujica had clean sheets out of pen.

A.J. Pierzynski had three hits and scored three times for the offensively challenged Red Sox. Grady Sizemore added two hits and Xander Bogaerts, one of the few bright spots at the moment, added two hits and two RBIs.

Video: Red Sox Lose 9th Straight On Another Rays Walk-Off

Logan Forsythe (L) and Yunel Escobar (R) come in to celebrate with Cole Figueroa #35 of the Tampa Bay Rays after Figueroa scored off a one-run game-winning fielder's choice by the Rays' Desmond Jennings to end the 15th inning of a game against the Boston Red Sox on May 24, 2014 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Boston Red Sox are in turmoil right now. Not even during the worst parts of the 2012 season, did they lose nine games in a row. And the worst part, they found another way to lose.

In the bottom of the 15th inning, Andrew Miller got Tampa Bay Rays CF Desmond Jennings to ground out on a comebacker. Unfortunately for whatever reason, the defense thought he might bunt and wasn’t ready.

So when Miller got the ball, he did what he was supposed to do. Turn to second and throw to the man covering the ball. But, Dustin Pedroia wasn’t there and the throw went into center field allowing Cole Figueroa to score to give the Rays the 6-5 win.

Jake Peavy started this one and blew the five-run lead he was given. He allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings of work. Six relievers kept the Rays scoreless until the fateful 15th.

Brock Holt and Xander Bogaerts had two hits for the Red Sox. Bogaerts did leave the game in the bottom of the 11th with a hamstring cramp. A.J. Pierzynski had a three-run home run while Mike Carp had an RBI on a hit-by-pitch. Jonny Gomes had the other RBI on a sac fly.
