When Tina Charles came to the UConn Huskies, she told head coach Geno Auriemma she wanted to become the best basketball player in the country and win a national championship.
Last year, she won the national championship and during the 2009-10 season, she’s taken steps to being one of the best players in the country. And now, she’s achieved greatness at the conference level.
On Friday afternoon, the Big East Conference announced that Charles was named as the Big East Player of the Year. It’s the third straight year that a Husky has won the award. Maya Moore had won the last two. Charles is also the 16th Husky to take home the honor.
Speaking of Moore, she was named as the Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Moore is the fifth Husky to take home that honor. And not to be left out, Auriemma was named as Co-Coach of the Year in the Big East along with West Virginia’s Mike Carey.
