In honor of Johnny Pesky’s 87th birthday, the Boston Red Sox will officially dedicate the Right Field foul pole affectionately known as “Pesky’s Pole” as well you guessed it “Pesky’s Pole” on Wednesday, September 27 before the game.

“While Fenway’s right-field foul pole has unofficially been known as ‘Pesky’s Pole’ for years, this event allows us to celebrate one of the most revered gentlemen in Red Sox history,” said club President/CEO Larry Lucchino. “Johnny Pesky has served this franchise with loyalty and distinction during seven decades, and he continues to be one of the most beloved individuals to ever wear a Red Sox uniform. The organization is proud to recognize him with this honor.”

Pesky’s pole was given its name by former Red Sox pitcher and radio broadcaster, Mel Parnell, who in his eyes, stated that most of Pesky’s homeruns came near the right field foul pole, located a short 302 feet from home plate at Fenway. Of Pesky’s 13 homeruns with the Sox, only 6 of those came at Fenway Park.

This is a great honor for a man who deserves it. He finally got his World Series Ring when the Sox won the World Series in 2004. If you ever have watched a game, you will always notice the players around Pesky. Congratulations Johnny Pesky on this truly “unique” honor.
