Last night at the new Yankee Stadium, the Boston Red Sox continued their 2009 dominance of the New York Yankees with a 7-3 win to run their record to 5-0 against them this season.
Jason Bay once again proved to be a Yankee killer as his 3-run blast in the 1st inning off of Joba Chamberlain was huge. Especially given the fact that Chamberlain settled down after that inning and was pretty much untouchable.
Bay has given Red Sox Nation every chance to fall in love with him and as he continues to put numbers, not just against the Yanks, that love grows stronger. With Bay in a contract year and the Red Sox and Bay halting contract negotiations due to the poor economy, his price keeps going up and you have to wonder if the Red Sox will be able to sign him.
As reader fc put it, she’s not worried and neither am I. If he really wants to be here for the future, Theo Epstein and Bay will find a way to make it work. Many were worried that because he played with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he might not be able to handle the pressures of playing in Boston unlike some other people.
Well he’s done that and more and now it’s time for Theo and the Red Sox to show that love back to him with a contract to keep in a Red Sox uniform for years to come.
There’s a reason why the Red Sox are 5-0 against the Yankees and 2-5 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays pitching is much better than the Yankees. The Yanks spent a ton of money on their starting pitching and yet haven’t seen the results of that yet.
The one thing the Yankees didn’t do was address their bullpen and that’s the difference right now between the three teams.
