Since the New York Yankees decided to be cockblockers with the trade of Billy Wagner to the Boston Red Sox from the New York Mets, the two teams finished up the deal on Wednesday afternoon.

In what we knew already, the Red Sox finally sent Chris Carter and minor leaguer Eddie Lora to the Mets.

Wagner will most likely be a Type A free agent in the offseason and the Red Sox do plan to offer him arbitration. He is expected to decline arbitration so that he can go in search of a closer’s job somewhere else.

Wagner pitched in 15 games for the Red Sox this season and was 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA.  He had 22 strikeouts in 13.2 innings and will play a vital part for the Red Sox out of the bullpen during the 2009 playoffs.

Carter played in four games for the Red Sox in 2009 and was hitless. He played a total of thirteen games in two seasons and hit .261 with four RBI. In 116  games with the Pawtucket Red Sox, Carter hit .294 with 16 HR and 61 RBI.

Lora, just 20 years old, spent the 2009 season with the Gulf Coast Red Sox. In 34 games, he hit .222 with 3 HR and 7 RBI.
