According to club sources, the Red Sox have offered Mike Lowell a 3-year guaranteed deal that should meet his expectations. Lowell had wanted a 3-year contract that was guaranteed. He has still not responded to the Red Sox latest offer.
With Lowell saying all along that he would give the Red Sox a hometown discount if he got the 3-years guaranteed, I surely expect for him to accept this deal and be a member of Red Sox Nation for the rest of his playing years. If Lowell was to hit the open market next week, it is widely believed that he could get a four year deal.
Once Lowell decides whether or not to sign with the Red Sox, expect the other teams who are in need of a third baseman to start making their moves.
