Led by five scorers in double figures, the UCONN Lady Huskies defeated the Boston University Terriers by the final score of 84-51. Mel Thomas led the way with 14 pts with Tina Charles and Charde Houston adding 12 pts each, Kalana Greene with 11 pts and Brittany Hunter with 10 pts. The Huskies showed no signs of rust from their layoff and the trip to Italy scoring early and often.
Notes and Observations from the game:
- The starters were Montgomery, Thomas, Greene, Charles and Houston.
- Mel Thomas started slow tonight but got hot hitting all 4 of her 3 point shots finishing with 14 pts, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
- Charde Houston continues to play well. She finished with a double-double in the game. 12 points and 11 rebounds.
- Brittany Hunter continues to play limited minutes only playing 11 minutes tonight. She did pull down 7 rebounds, all on the offensive end.
- Tina Charles showed no sign of the shoulder injury which caused her to miss the last exhibition game in Italy. She added 8 rebounds to go along with her 12 points.
- All of the Huskies played tonight.
- This was the Lady Huskies 188th consecutive win at home over an unranked opponent
- Coach Geno Auriemma is now 8 wins from 600 in his career.
Next up for the Huskies is the Lady Boilermakers of Purdue. This will be UCONN’s first real test as the Boilermakers will come to Gampel as the 9th ranked team in the country. It will also be a good measure of where the Lady Huskies are at at this point in the young season. Game time is 7:00 PM at Gampel. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
