Potential one-game tiebreakers would be scheduled for Monday, Sept. 29 and carried by TBS and ESPN Radio. The third game of the recent Cubs-Astros series affected by Hurricane Ike would be played if necessary on Monday, Sept. 29 in Houston. If the Astros remain in contention for the NL Wild Card, then there are scenarios in which the CHC-HOU makeup game could affect the scheduling of a potential NL Wild Card tiebreaker game or games.

The Division champion with the next best overall regular-season record also will have home-field advantage in the Division Series.
The club with the best record in the American League will have the right to decide whether it will play in the seven-day or eight-day Division Series (i.e., whether it will start its Division Series on Wednesday, Oct. 1 or Thursday, Oct. 2). The AL club with the best record will make its selection no later than one hour following the completion of any game that finalizes which club will have the best record in the regular season or finalizes the matchups in the Division Series, whichever is later.
