The Big East Conference and the UConn Huskies women’s basketball program have put out the schedule for the 2012-13 season.

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has finalized its 2012-13 schedule as announced by the team on Thursday, September 6. The 30-game non-conference slate includes 15 games against teams that qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament, and eight games against opponents that finished in the top-10 of the RPI (ratings percentage index). In addition to the 30-game non-conference schedule, the Huskies will also play a pair of exhibition contests.

UConn’s first exhibition game is on Friday, November 2 when the team welcomes Indian University (Pa.) to the Nutmeg State. The Crimson Hawks finished the 2011-12 season ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II and completed the season with a 23-7 record. IUP advanced to the NCAA Tournament Atlantic Regional Semifinal. The second and final exhibition contest will be against Holy Family on Wednesday, November 7. Holy Family was 26-8 and won the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title with a 17-2 mark.
The 2012-13 regular season will open with a contest against the College of Charleston on Sunday, November 11. C of C finished the 2011-12 season with a 7-24 overall record and the Cougars were 6-14 in the Southern Conference. The Huskies downed the College of Charleston, 77-24, on December 21 of last season in “The Holy City”.
Next up for UConn is a stiff, early-season road test at Texas A&M on Sunday, November 18. The Aggies finished the 2011-12 season ranked No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and were rated eighth in the final RPI calculation. The Aggies were 24-11 overall last year, which included an 81-51 loss to UConn in Hartford.
The Huskies will head back to the Nutmeg State for a showdown with Colgate on Wednesday, November 28 before squaring-off against 2012 ACC Tournament Champion Maryland in the 2012 Jimmy V Classic on Monday, December 3. The Terps were 31-5, 11-4 last season and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland finished the season ranked No. 5/5 and this will mark the first meeting between the two squads. UConn is 2-2 all-time in the Jimmy V Classic, having defeated Texas A&M in the event last year.
Penn State is next up in UConn’s challenging home schedule as the teams will square-off on Thursday, December 5 in a rematch of their 2012 NCAA Regional Semifinal. PSU finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 26-7 overall record and won the Big 10 Regular Season with a 13-3 mark. UConn is 7-3 all-time against PSU, which finished last season ranked No. 11/9.

The Huskies will then break for finals before welcoming Oakland to the Constitution State on Wednesday, December 19. Oakland was 11-17 last season.
A short road trip is in order next for UConn as the Huskies travel down I-84 to take on the University of Hartford on Saturday, December 22. UHart qualified for the 2012 NIT after posting a 19-13 record during the regular season.
Connecticut will next hit the west coast for games against Stanford and Oregon on Saturday, December 29 and Monday, December 31 respectively. Stanford put together another outstanding season in 2011-12, posting a 35-2 overall record and an 18-0 mark in Pac-12 play. The Cardinal also won the Pac-12 Tournament, advanced to the Final Four for the fifth-straight season and finished the year ranked No. 2/3. The Huskies are 7-6 all-time against Stanford.
Oregon was 15-16, 7-11 last year and finished the year rated No. 141 in the RPI.
A pair of marquee home games round out the non-conference portion of UConn schedule. First up is Duke on Monday, January 21. The Blue Devils were 27-6 overall last season and won the ACC Regular Season crown with a 15-1 record. Duke advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and finished the season ranked sixth nationally. The Huskies are 8-3 all-time against Duke and currently enjoy a five-game winning streak in the series.
Defending national champion Baylor will travel to Connecticut for a much anticipated showdown on Monday, February 18. Baylor won all 40 of its games last year en route to its second national championship.
In BIG EAST play, UConn will play eight home games and eight away games with home-and-away series against Notre Dame and Marquette. Connecticut will travel to Georgetown, Marquette, Cincinnati, St. John’s Providence, Rutgers, South Florida and Notre Dame and will have home showdowns against Notre Dame, Louisville, Syracuse, Villanova, Marquette, DePaul, Seton Hall and Pittsburgh.
