2011 MLB All-Star Game logo

Last week when the American League All-Star voting totals came out, we as fans of the Boston Red Sox found David Ortiz and Adrian Gonzalez in starting positions for the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Well the song remains the same this week although Jacoby Ellsbury is inching closer to a starting nod in the outfield.

In last week’s totals, Ellsbury found himself about 352,000 votes behind Josh Hamilton for the final starting spot in the AL outfield. This week, Ellsbury trails Hamilton by just 173,000 votes.

Carl Crawford has also moved up in the outfield voting to fifth place and trails Hamilton by 611,000 votes. J.D. Drew finds himself in 10th place, 1.3 million votes behind Hamilton.

Gonzalez has seen his lead at first base go from 250,000 votes to 610,000 votes over Mark Teixeira. The same goes for Big Papi who last week lead Michael Young by 550,000 votes and now has a commanding 1.345 million vote lead.

Dustin Pedroia still trails Robinson Cano by about 1.4 million votes at second base. Kevin Youkilis trails Alex Rodriguez by 875,000 votes in the voting at third base. Marco Scutaro also jumped into the mix at shortstop but trails Derek Jeter by 1.8 million votes.

And last but not least, Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia still finds himself in fourth place, 1.1 million votes behind Russell Martin.

We’ve got two starters so far and we need to keep it this way. It would also be nice to see Ellsbury sneak in there as well. I’ve done my part with multiple email addresses and will continue to do it. Now it’s up to you to help as well.

Since the Red Sox are partnering up with the San Francisco Giants in the NL, be sure to Vote the Ticket! and get our boys to starting positions at the 2011 MLB All-Star Game.
