According to J.A. Adande, in a special piece written for ESPN.com Reggie Miller is contemplating a return to the NBA, this time as a member of the Boston Celtics.
Miller, who is 42, retired after the 2005 season having spent his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers. Since his retirement he has been a NBA analyst for TNT.
Miller, a five-time NBA all-star, was contacted by Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers about a return in which they invision him playing 15 minutes a game in a reserve role.
According to Adande, Miller is calling friends and peers to gather their opinions on a possible return. Miller is unsure if he wants to put up with the grind of an 82 game season. He also wonders if his body can take the training that would be needed to get back into NBA playing shape.
The lure of playing in Boston is simple. With the additions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Paul Pierce, the Celtics are considered a top contender in the Eastern Conference. Like those three, the only thing missing from Miller’s list of accomplishments is a championship.
Miller is 7th in NBA history in games played (1,323), 13th overall in scoring (25,279 points) and holds the record for most career three-point field goals with 2,560.
